The David Lee Project.
No words can begin to explain how amazing this experience was. In 2007, at this same venue, I performed with Teen Groov at my first ‘Prelude’ - (now called ‘The Bridge’). Four years later, I was given the opportunity to showcase my own project.
When I found out that I got accepted to be an exhibition performer a few months ago, I was soooooo in shock…happy, but in shock. This whole process was ridiculous. Being so busy with school, auditions, work, The Boogiezone Family Reunion show, I didn’t begin my rehearsals until November 17th. In just six (the seventh was a review) rehearsals, I was able to successfully put together a five-minute set with a total of 47 performers representing CADC, ChAOSCommon Ground, Kaba Modern, Mischief Makers, IV League, Underground, Offspring, Team Millenia, GRV, Barkada Modern, Offspring, and Breed (there’s more I bet). Going into this, I knew that with having only 6 rehearsals, I had to be organized, efficient, prepared, confident, and trusting. I think it’s safe for me to say that I was all of those things.
There were a few things that I really wanted out of this project…
As for the dancers, you guys are simply amazing. Going off that thing about me being trusting, that’s exactly what I had to be of you guys. We literally did everything in six rehearsals (and barely cleaned), yet it looks like you’ve been dancing together for a while…the chemistry between you guys was just great…And we NEVER had everyone at the same time until we actually performed. This group of individuals reflects the past six years that I’ve been dancing…from Alhambra AMDT to CADC, and everyone I’ve shared this passion with along the way. I don’t know if this makes sense, but each dancer does my choreography so well but they embody it so differently. That’s what I love about this project the most - it might not be the cleanest or most visually appealing, but what makes it amazing is that its so raw…it’s definitely something that I’m proud of.
I can’t say this enough, but thank you so much to everyone for supporting me these past six years…I can’t believe it’s gone by so quickly, and how far everything has progressed. Performing with Breed, Walter & Claire, CADC, and TDLP was definitely a great way to end 2011. Until the next project…
